Canada #225 (SG#349) 20c Deep Olive Green Niagara Falls 1935-1937 Dated Die Issue SUP-98 OG

A nearly perfectly centered and superb mint OG example of the 20c deep olive green Niagara Falls stamp from the 1935-37 Dated Die Issue. Printed on vertical wove paper with fine vertical mesh that is only visible when the stamp is held up to a strong back light, and with smooth cream gum that has a semi-gloss sheen. Although not mentioned in Unitrade, this issue has at least 8 different paper and gum type combinations, and there are at least two shades of the olive green. The paper varies according to the direction of the weave (horizontal versus vertical) and the direction and visibility of the mesh. The gum varies in colour and sheen. In my opinion these varieties are every bit as collectible as perforation and shade varieties on the other issues. The scans show the various gum and paper types in more detail. Line perf. 12.0. Unitrade values a VF-75 OG single at $25. Although well centered examples are the norm on this issue, stamps grading above VF-84 are not common and become scarcer, the closer you get to GEM-100. Our price reflects the scarcity of this quality. The stamp offered here grades SUP-98 OG as follows:

Margins/centering: 68/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
