Two well centered and very fine NH singles of the 6c deep rose red and scarlet Lester Pearson stamps from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, each printed on a different paper. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of light strength (barely visible to the naked eye), and moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. The paper gives different reactions under UV light and displays different physical characteristics as follows:

  • The deep rose red stamp is on a vertical wove paper with a rough surface texture. Under UV light, the paper gives a non-fluorescent greyish reaction on the front, and a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the back. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. The tagging is of moderate strength.
  • The scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper that shows clear horizontal ribbing on the printed surface. Under UV light, the paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish reaction on the front, and a low fluorescent bluish white reaction on the back. Smooth, white PVA gum with an eggshell sheen. The tagging is of light strength.

Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Unitrade values two VF-75 NH singles at $0.60. The stamps offered here grade 80 as follows: Margins/centering: 50/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952.The item (s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality.
