Five fine NH singles of the 6c deep rose red and bright scarlet Lester Pearson stamps from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, each printed on a different paper. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of light strength (barely visible to the naked eye), and moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. The paper gives different reactions under UV light and displays different physical characteristics as follows:

  • A deep rose red stamp is on a vertical wove paper with a rough surface texture. Under UV light, the paper gives a non-fluorescent greyish reaction on the front, and a non fluorescent greyish white reaction on the back. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. Tagging is of light strength and the gum is smooth PVA with a satin sheen.
  • A bright scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper with a burnished smooth surface texture. Under UV light the paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the face, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres and a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres being visible. On the back, the paper gives a dull fluorescent bluish white reaction, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres and a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres visible. Tagging is of light strength and the gum is creamy PVA with a satin sheen.
  • Another bright scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper that shows a burnished smooth surface texture. Under UV light, the paper gives a low fluorescent bluish reaction on the front and back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres and very few high fluorescent fibres visible in the paper on both sides. The tagging is of light strength and the gum is cream PVA with a satin sheen.
  • Another bright scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper with a burnished smooth surface texture. Under UV light, the paper gives a dull fluorescent bluish white reaction, with a low density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres and a very sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper on both sides. Tagging is of light strength and the gum is smooth creamy PVA with a satin sheen.
  • Another bright scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper with a burnished smooth surface texture. Under UV light, the paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the face, with low density concentrations of low and medium fluorescent fibres visible. On the back the paper gives a medium fluorescent bluish white reaction with low density concentrations of low and medium fluorescent fibres visible in the paper. Tagging is of moderate strength and the gum is smooth creamy PVA with a satin sheen.
