Three well centered and very fine NH singles of the 2c green Sir Wilfred Laurier stamp from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, printed on three different papers. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of light strength (barely visible to the naked eye), and moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark) and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. The paper gives different reactions under UV light as follows:

  • smooth, vertically wove paper, giving a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the front, and a low fluorescent bluish white reaction on the back, with a medium density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a low density concentration of medium fluorescent fibres, a sparse concentration of high fluorescent fibres, and very few brownish woodpulp fibres, visible on the back. The tagging is of light strength.
  • horizontally ribbed paper, giving a non-fluorescent greyish reaction on the front and a dull fluorescent bluish white reaction on the back. The tagging is of moderate strength.
  • smooth, vertically wove paper, giving a low fluorescent blue grey reaction on the front and a low fluorescent bluish reaction on the back, with a low density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres and very few high fluorescent fibres visible on the back. The tagging is of light strength.

Unitrade lists #587v as DF paper, 587vi as HF paper and 587ix as DF/F paper. These three stamps represent three varieties of these paper types. Unitrade values two VF-75 NH singles, at $1.25. The stamps offered here grade 75 and 80 as follows: Margins/centering: 45/70 (587vi and 587ix), 50/70 (587v) Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952. The item(s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
