Three very fine NH singles of the 1c deep orange and orange Sir John A. Macdonald stamps from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue. The stamps are each printed in a different shade of orange, and on paper giving a different reaction under UV light, and a different weave direction as follows:

  1. Deep orange, on smooth vertical wove paper giving a dull fluorescent greyish blue reaction on the front and a more bluish reaction on the back, with a low density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, very few medium fluorescent fibres and very few brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper. Tagging is of light strength (barely visible to the naked eye).
  2. Deep orange, on smooth vertical wove paper giving a dull fluorescent greyish blue reaction on the front and back, with a low density concentration of low fluorescrent fibres, very few medium fluorescent fibres and very few brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper. Tagging is of moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark).
  3. Orange, on smooth horizontal wove paper giving a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the front and the back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres visible in the paper. Tagging is of moderate strength.

General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. Unitrade lists #586 as LF paper, of which I have found at least nine varieties, and 586ii as DF paper, of which I have found two different varieties. Together, these three stamps represent three of the 11 different varieties I have found of these two papers/tags/shades. Unitrade values three VF-75 NH singles at $0.75. The stamps offered here grade 75 as follows: Margins/centering: 45/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952.The item (s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
